Public notice on International Dialling Using 00
FINTEL has received complaints from the public about low quality telephone reception, dropped calls or congested lines when dialling the international access code ‘00’.
If you dial an international number using ‘00’ from your landline or mobile phone, you have asked for the call to be switched through FINTEL’s Next Generation Network International Gateway and you should receive a very high quality international telecommunications service. However, your call can be carried by up to three local telephone companies (including FINTEL) before it leaves Fiji.
If there are system errors or other problems, your call may be directed not through the FINTEL Gateway but instead being sent via other systems that may have caused a degradation of quality. Callers have complained to FINTEL about poor quality on “00” calls.
There should be no such loss of quality on a call carried by FINTEL’s network. However FINTEL’s network cannot carry your phone call until after your mobile or landline provider switches it to FINTEL. If after dialing the access code “00” you experience low quality service or a recorded announcement suggesting all lines to your destination are in use, please immediately call FINTEL so that we can investigate and remedy these problems.
